The UN Career Records Project (UNCRP) started in 1989 as a partnership between BAFUNCS (the UK branch of retired UN staff) and the Bodleian Library, Oxford University, to collect the memoirs and personal records of former UN staff, as well as of those with service linked to the UN system. The UNCRP collection complements the official records of the UN kept by the Bodleian in its capacity as an official depository of UN documents. These contributions, coming from across the UN System, now number more than 500, providing a substantial database of practical on-the-ground UN experience over the years available to researchers. The collection tells the story of how individual UN staff have contributed to a better world, with limited resources and often in difficult circumstances and as such provides a valuable resource for researchers.
Terry and I would be delighted to continue to provide support to anyone considering adding papers to the steadily growing archive. Any material can be considered if not already formally published, either in hard copy or electronic form. It is also important to know that you can place a time embargo of your choosing on material which you may regard as sensitive. We can also arrange to record interviews if this is your preferred medium. Documentation about UNCRP has been reviewed and updated, including the guidance note and online questionnaire for those interested in providing materials, which can be accessed at the links below.
If you have materials or want to ask further questions about UNCRP please contact us at the email addresses listed below.
