Edward Mortimer, 1943-2021

Many BAFUNCS Members will already have heard of the sad passing of Edward Mortimer who was UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Head of Communications and subsequently our President 2012-2017.  He will be sadly missed and we have already conveyed our heartfelt condolences to his widow, Wiz.

Shortly after his death there were excellent obituaries in The Times and in the Financial Times.  Before joining Kofi Annan's inner circle at UN Headquarters, Edward worked for both these a august publications, as well as achieving much else in his life. There was also a nice obituary of him in The Guardian.

We would however like to add an Appreciation prepared by Sir Kieran Prendergast, our current President, who worked alongside him in New York.

We also want to share the text of a song which Edward wrote for Kofi Annan, "I am the very model of a Secretary General", modelled on the song from Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.
