AR 2018 – Looking back at Geneva
Undoubtedly the highlight of our recently completed and highly successful Annual Reunion in Geneva was the visit by former Secretary-General Kofi Annan and his conversation with our President, Sir Kieran Prendergast. His characteristically soft but principled exposition of the many challenges he faced during his term of office served to inform and inspire all those present. He is currently the Chair and Founder of the Kofi Annan Foundation, based in Geneva.
The Role of NGOs and Civil Society in Conflict Resolution
On Sunday morning we were treated to a fascinating exposition on the role of NGOs in so-called “soft mediation” by David Harland, Executive Director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva.
Reassurance from the Pension Fund
Our final speaker was Alan Blythe, Director of the Geneva Office of the UN Pension Fund, who updated participants on the current state of the Fund, and how it was dealing with its administrative issues. He and a colleague also provided individual consultations for interested participants.
We also managed to hold our annual General Assembly (AGM)....
In between we managed to conduct the business of our AGM, during which we discussed the annual reports of the Executive Committee, the BAFUNCS Benevolent Fund and the UN Careers Record Project; reviewed and approved the 2017 accounts and 2018 budget for the Association; and elected (often re-elected) members of the Executive Committee.
...and to visit CERN, Patek Philippe or tour the City of Geneva.
