Eligibility

Full membership of the Association is open to any past or present staff members of the organizations or agencies of the United Nations System, as well as their spouses. Widows and widowers of staff members can belong in their own right. Members of the Association do not need to have British citizenship or even to reside in the United Kingdom; all nationalities are eligible and welcome.

Associate membership is open to all persons who support the objectives of the Association. They may participate fully in its activities, but they do not have the right to vote or hold office.

Serving staff members of United Nations organizations are encouraged to join the Association. Membership can be of particular value to them and to the Association in their last few years of service, especially if they intend to retire to the United Kingdom.

How to Join

Those interested in joining should complete an On-Line Membership Application Form.

New members will be assigned to one of the 10 BAFUNCS regions (see "Regions" on top level menu) and will be given access to our website where they can find the latest membership news and information about upcoming regional/national activities and other events and also participate in discussion fora.  They can also see/download the latest Membership List, the Constitution, the most recent issue of the BAFUNCS Newsletter, the Guide to the BAFUNCS Benevolent Fund, and the Information Notes produced by the Association (see "Publications" on top-level menu). New members are also provided with a list of regional officers, which includes the name of their Regional Representative. All this information can also be obtained from the members' area of the BAFUNCS website.

Subscription

Members are required to pay an annual subscription. In addition, a one-off Entrance Fee of £25 per person (i.e. £50 for joint membership) is payable on first joining the Association. Although these can be paid by cheque or standing order, payment by Direct Debit is strongly preferred as this greatly reduces the work of the Subscriptions Secretary and assists the Association in the preparation of its annual budget. The necessary details will be provided when your membership is accepted.

The annual standard subscription is £20 for an individual member and £30 for a couple. The Association is financed entirely by subscriptions. These are the minimum subscription rates. New members are encouraged to be as generous as possible, bearing in mind that if they can pay more it helps to keep the basic subscription as low as possible. This in turn helps the Association’s less well-placed members.

Life Membership is also available to members over the age of 60, costing £500 for an individual member, or £750 for a couple. This is payable in a lump sum.
