5th Memorial Event for Humanitarian Aid Workers, Westminster Abbey, 19 August 2019

The annual memorial event, in connection with World Humanitarian Day, seeks to honour those who died in the service of humanitarianism, to recognise our common humanitarian ideals and to celebrate the spirit that continues to inspire humanitarian action around the globe.  It is intended as an occasion to enable families, friends, colleagues and organisations to pay their tribute to humanitarians past and present.
By kind permission of the Dean & Chapter of Westminster, the event begins with Evensong in Westminster Abbey (4.40pm for 5.00pm start).  This open to all, but there is no requirement to attend the service if you would prefer to arrive immediately afterwards (6.00pm start) for the wreath-laying ceremony, preceded by some short speeches.  White roses (with blank name tags) will be provided for participants to lay to remember particular individuals.  The wreath-laying takes place outside the Abbey's West Door at the Memorial for Innocent Victims of Oppression, Violence and War and lasts approximately 30 minutes. The wreath-laying ceremony is not nationality- or faith-based and is also open to all.
If you would like to attend both or only the second part of the Memorial event this year, please email     memorial@odi.org.uk and provide your postal address for receipt of the printed invitation.
