Proposed visit to the Wallace Collection on 10/08/2017

Yes, that is correct; Thursday, 10th August 2017.  We had intended, as discussed at the AGM, to make the visit in June but there were problems with all the possible dates in June, so we have chosen 10th August and hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.  Please feel free to invite friends or relatives to join us.  We need a minimum of 12 people to make the visit viable.

The Wallace Collection, situated in central London on Manchester Square, houses a collection of French 18th century paintings, furniture and porcelain as well as old master paintings including “The Laughing Cavalier” and a world class armoury.  At the time of our visit there will be a special display of French cabinet making. Our tour is a “museum highlights tour” which does not include this display, but it could be visited if one arrived early.

The Wallace Restaurant is a delightful light and airy place.  After the tour, we can indulge in a full afternoon tea, savoury snacks or just tea/coffee with maybe a cake or biscuit.  It would also be a good place to have a tea/coffee if one arrived early.

Time: Meet at 1.45 p.m. for the guided tour which starts promptly at 2 p.m.  We should assemble in the visitor assembly area near the entrance, close to the shop.  The tour should finish at about 3.15 p.m. when we can go for tea, to be ordered individually, in the restaurant. (last orders 4.30 pm.)

Cost: £9.00 per person for a guided tour of the highlights of the collection.

If you are interested in joining Surrey members for this visit, please contact Alison Husaunndee by 17 July at the latest.
